چکیده

Statistical methods protecting sensitive information or the identity of the data owner have become critical to ensure privacy of individuals as well as of organizations. This paper investigates anonymization methods based on representation learning and deep neural networks, and motivated by novel informationtheoretical bounds. We introduce a novel training objective for simultaneously training a predictor over target variables of interest (the regular labels) while preventing an intermediate representation to be predictive of the private labels. The architecture is based on three sub-networks: one going from input to representation, one from representation to predicted regular labels, and one from representation to predicted private labels. The training procedure aims at learning representations that preserve the relevant part of the information (about regular labels) while dismissing information about the private labels which correspond to the identity of a person. We demonstrate the success of this approach for two distinct classification versus anonymization tasks (handwritten digits and sentiment analysis).

Learning Social Graph Topologies using Generative Adversarial Neural Networks

Although sources of social media data abound, companies are often reluctant to share data, even anonymized or aggregated, for fear of violating user privacy. This paper introduces an approach for learning the probability of link formation from data using generative adversarial neural networks. In our generative adversarial network (GAN) paradigm, one neural network is trained to generate the gr...

Manifold Regularized Deep Neural Networks using Adversarial Examples

Learning meaningful representations using deep neural networks involves designing efficient training schemes and well-structured networks. Currently, the method of stochastic gradient descent that has a momentum with dropout is one of the most popular training protocols. Based on that, more advanced methods (i.e., Maxout and Batch Normalization) have been proposed in recent years, but most stil...

Towards Interpretable Deep Neural Networks by Leveraging Adversarial Examples

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have demonstrated impressive performance on a wide array of tasks, but they are usually considered opaque since internal structure and learned parameters are not interpretable. In this paper, we re-examine the internal representations of DNNs using adversarial images, which are generated by an ensembleoptimization algorithm. We find that: (1) the neurons in DNNs do n...

Adversarial Multi-Task Learning of Deep Neural Networks for Robust Speech Recognition

A method of learning deep neural networks (DNNs) for noise robust speech recognition is proposed. It is widely known that representations (activations) of well-trained DNNs are highly invariant to noise, especially in higher layers, and such invariance leads to the noise robustness of DNNs. However, little is known about how to enhance such invariance of representations, which is a key for impr...

Adversarial Network Embedding

Learning low-dimensional representations of networks has proved effective in a variety of tasks such as node classification, link prediction and network visualization. Existing methods can effectively encode different structural properties into the representations, such as neighborhood connectivity patterns, global structural role similarities and other highorder proximities. However, except fo...
